Newsletter 2011/02

PhDr. Norbert Riethof
Dear Coaching Systems friends,
I send you a heartfelt greeting at the end of a year which I hope has been as inspiring for you as it has for me. I spent most of the summer abroad, where I not only charged up on professional inspiration, but also on spiritual energy.
In August I took part in a conference of the Association for Psychological Type International in San Francisco – you can find more about my participation there in an article in this publication. Also representing the Czech Republic at the conference was Michal Čakrt, one of the pioneers of Jungian typology on the Czech and Slovak market. We were so taken with the atmosphere of the conference that after it ended we decided to found the Czechoslovak Association for Psychological Type. We will inform you soon about the founding and activities of this organisation.
In the meantime, Coaching Systems also recorded innovations and new additions. We added two new members to our team and in the summer we launched a new website, which we hope will help keep our clients and supporters better informed.
Another major and successful project at Coaching Systems is the Academy of Coaching Excellence, a training programme for coaches that prepares participants for accreditation by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). In July the EMCC organised a conference in Twente, Netherlands, which was dedicated to coaching research. The acting president of the EMCC, Lise Lewis, expressed her support for our activities in the Czech Republic in person there. The next phase of our Academy of Coaching Excellence is just around the corner in February 2012.
In December we'll be taking part in the HR Expo conference, which is taking place along with the Human Resources Forum. We invite you to visit our booth and our workshops on the use of MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) typology in leadership, which I will be leading along with the company's partner Tereza Damborská. More information can be found here.
This issue of our newsletter also contains contributions from our consultants about personality typology and its use in professional growth as well as in developing teamwork. It also deals with the visit of Marjorie Shackleton to Prague, where she presented on the highly current topic of supervision in coaching.
I wish you all a peaceful end to 2011!

APT CONFERENCE IN SAN FRANCISCO

The conference was organised by the Association for Psychological Type and took place in the beautiful city with the famous Golden Gate Bridge, which seemed to symbolise the linking of opposites – the main theme of Jungian personality types. The name of this important event was also telling: Type in Wonderland.

MARJORIE SHACKLETON
- accredited executive coach supervisor from Great Britain, visited Prague at our invitation

Marjorie spent only two days in Prague, yet she managed to be the main presenter at the traditional EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) evening on 20 October 2011 and moderator at the "Supervision in Coaching" workshop the following day. We put on the workshop on this highly current topic in the very pleasant setting of the Hilton Old Town Hotel.

MBTI FOR LIFE COACHING

I have just moved for 2 years to Kuala Lumpur and due to the joys of long distance travel and the internet can combine my new location with working for Coaching Systems. However, a new location brings with it both opportunities and changes.  A veteran of countless organizational changes personally and many years of experience helping clients work through their life and business change, this move should be OK? I know all about the highs and lows of the transition curve. So it should be OK? Change is inevitable, how we deal with it is a choice.  Well, the emotional side can sometimes dominate the rationale side – when it took me 3 shops and over an hour to get a sim card!

WHAT WE ARE AND WHAT WE ARE NOT
– or, What we don’t want to hear about ourselves is exactly what we should listen to

Coaching Systems uses MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) in training programmes extensively. It is an effective tool that helps us understand ourselves and others. It can be used for mapping strengths, finding areas for improvement and setting direction for further development of teams and individuals alike, with excellent results.
